Damian Warner sets new Canadian record in decathlon (0)

Canada’s Damian Warner defeated one of track and field’s oldest records.

The 25-year-old decathlete won the decathlon at the Pan American Games in Toronto, breaking Michael Smith’s 19 year old Canadian record 8626 points.

New Canadian record is 8659 points.

Kurt Felix (Grenada) was second with 8269 and Luiz Alberto de Araujo (Brazil) third with 8179 points.

Damian Warner is the Canadian decathlon record holder. He was the 4th decathlete to break the 9000-point barrier. He won an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games (2021).

Damian Warner wins with 8523 points and my prognosis for the top three was a good one. Brianne Theisen-Eaton won the heptathlon, so this was a second edition of the Canadian Games!
