Ashton Eaton 2014/2015 (3)

May 21, 2015

Here are some facts about Ashton participating last year in the 400 hurdles, having good results during the indoor season and doing preparation for the outdoor season 2015 .

Was he doing well in “the man-killer” the 400H? Decide for yourself: First of all with 48.69 he landed in the top 10 of the year as ninth. Secondly he did the best time ever for a 7000+ decathlete participating in the 400 hurdles. Third interesting fact, it would have been a world record till 14 October 1968  what means that Ashton would have won gold on the Olympics in the 400H till 1964, plus silver in 1968 in Mexico and silver as well in Montreal in 1976. Another fascinating point is that in Oslo he won the 400 H race, what makes him the first decathlete to win an individual Diamond League event. Many decathletes would like to run this time without hurdles in a decathlon as well. Yes he’s versatile and the eatonator is back and dangerous, for he talks in interviews about a world record! If the detonator  activates, there’s no way to hold him back nor to know where he will end with his points total. (A detonator is a device used to trigger an on itself usually stable explosive device.)

Nonetheless the former world record holder Roman Sebrle said it was good to … 1 have no recent injuries 2 being in good health – good shape 3 have good weather 4 some luck is welcome 5 good wind. Let us hope for the big 5 in Götzis.

Eaton 2015 Indoor

This indoor season Ashton invented a new event. Immediately after running your 60 hurdles you have to do the up and down jump. The risk is certainly comparable with the pole vault before the second world war. Thank goodness he wasn’t injured. Try to see the 7.51 he did on you tube. It’s too much to explain. Suddenly he was gone! However his time was 0.9 better than his pb before, and the sixth on world top level this winter. If that pb is an indication for his shape in the hurdles we’ll see some firework this summer season.

A "little" addition to 400mH list:
Brasilian Mahau Camargo Suguimati (7055 in decathlon in 2012) has time 48.67 from 2009.
