Back in 2000 I did not care that much, today however I've found a conclusion of Erki Nools Sydney decatathlon. I can not believe that he had been able to influence the judges; his discus throw has obvious been a fault. What a shame that he finally got the gold medal ...

Experts hired by the Czech Athletic Federation to analyze Estonian decathlete Erki Nool's questionable discus throw at the Olympic Games in Sydney established that Nool missed overstepping by 9mm in the much-debated last attempt, which made him the gold medal winner.

Nine milimeters saved Olympic gold medal. How do you can tell us vice versa? Please respect Czech experts! Or do you respect only own eyes and mind?

The opinion of experts having been beeing hired later on is a valide and new argument to me, I have to give. I did not want to insult anybody and I especially have to correct myself to some degree: I has not been an "obvious" fault.
I have watched the following source:
http://www.youtube.com/watch/?v=GGsqQA8Tfd8
It however still looks to me as if the right shoe gets contact with the ring. To me there seems to be a slight deformation of the shoe at 6:15 min which differs from the deformation the shoe gets from the steps at 6:12 and 6:18. The angle between foot and ground is as steep as if a barrier hinders the foot to go down in a comparable way to 6:12 and 6:18 (even considering that Nool this time did not want the foot to go down as much with this step).
I further doubt that an athlete would get aware of a slight contact between shoe and ring.
I therefore would no accuse Nool to be a liar. His intention to influence the jury probably was out of the reason that he really believed the throw had been correct.
