European Championships Zurich 2014 (0)

Nov 01, 2026
The men's decathlon at the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zürich produced one of the most fiercely contested battles of the season. Six athletes surpassed 8400 points, with just 41 points separating third and sixth place. The fight was so close that Eelco Sintnicolaas edged Arthur Abele for fourth place by a single point.

WL - world leading performance.
PB - personal best.

Didn’t finish:
Eduard Mikhan (BLR), Marcus Nilsson (SWE), Pelle Rietveld (NED), Jiří Sýkora (CZE), Ashley Bryant (GBR), Sergei Sviridov (RUS).

Historical note: Andrei Krauchanka's European title came despite a remarkable struggle with injury. Just two months earlier, he had barely been able to run. Then, during the final 1500 m in Zürich, he strained a leg muscle after 800 metres and, by his own account, limped through the remaining 700 metres. Despite everything, he won gold with 8616 points – just one point short of his personal best.
