Historical note: Despite winning his first world title by 211 points, Bryan Clay admitted that simply finishing the decathlon was especially satisfying after failing to complete the event at the 2003 World Championships. In Helsinki's difficult rainy and windy conditions, he also achieved personal bests in the shot put, 400 m and javelin.
