Historical note: Edmonton brought together the reigning Olympic champion Erki Nool, three-time world champion Tomaš Dvorak and Roman Šebrle, who had become the first man to break the 9000-point barrier just ten weeks earlier in Götzis. However, a painful groin injury severely affected Šebrle's performance in Edmonton. He struggled to 16,97 seconds in the 110 m hurdles and eventually finished a disappointing tenth with 8174 points.
