Three-time world champion Tomaš Dvorak has announced that he will quit decathlon at the end of this season.

The 34-year-old Czech, who won world championships gold in 1997, 1999 and 2001, said: "I've decided to call it a day. You can't go on forever."

Dvorak, former world record holder (8994 points), will bow out at this summer's European Championships in Göteborg.

He said: "If everything goes well I'll be looking at a tally of between 8300 and 8400 points."
