The men's decathlon at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest featured one of the deepest fields in championship history, with six athletes scoring more than 8400 points. Estonia's Erki Nool captured the European title with 8667 points, finishing ahead of Finland's Eduard Hämäläinen (8587) and Russia's Lev Lobodin (8571) after a closely contested two-day competition.
