U20NR - national U20 record
Historical note: Just a month before Nairobi, František Doubek, José San Pastor and Jef Misplon were all disqualified for lane infringements in the 400m at the European U20 Championships in Tallinn. In Nairobi, all three completed the decathlon, with Doubek winning gold and San Pastor taking bronze.
Bronze medallist José San Pastor completed his first decathlon in September 2020, less than a year before Nairobi. A former Spanish U18 shot put champion, he had originally spent eight to nine years practising taekwondo before switching to athletics.
