do you know if there is already an official list who's going to participate in Barcelona or when that might be published?

I took a look around on the internet and found some athletes that have already been nominated by their national federations (though no guarantee if that's correct..)

(Pascal Behrenbruch - still undecided as far as i know)

Mikk Pahapill

Andres Raja

Mikk Mihkel Arro

Eelco Sintnicolaas

(Eugene Martineau)

Hans van Alphen

Mikko Halvari

Romain Barras

Nadir El Fassi

Aleksei Drozdov

Nicklas Wiberg

Daniel Almgren

Simon Walter

Who will win European Championships? I think Mikk Pahapill or Romain Barras, 6 event to go...

Kasyanov's 2nd day too weak. Drozdov lost too many points in Shot Put and High Jump.

don't forget about Krauchanka - in my opinion he's also back in the race

and if Wiberg gets close to his Berlin performance he might have a shot at the title as well

After 400m it looks very good for Barras.

Forecasting result service says Barras-Krauchanka-Pahapill-Wiberg-Kasyanov

http://www.ergorej.net/barcelona2010/men.php/?l=en...

but it is still close, 127 points between 1st and 5th in the prediction for the final result.

Kasaynov may need to throw the javelin 55m to have a chance for the title.

Unfortunately Wiberg DNS in the hurdles...

Draudvila again PB

Kasyanov DNS

Now it's definately Barras!

Sintnicolaas made a new PB in discus throw. Fight for medal, Eelco!

Posted: July 29, 2010
Krauchanka almost PB (PB within decathlon).

He could even win now...

3 medals out of 4 now (Andrei, Romain, Mikk, Eelco)

Off-topic, but interesting:

Bouraada wins African Champs with 8148 points, despite a 1500m 20s slower than usual (it's in Nairobi I know...)

5.45 !

Is Eelco going to win?

Wow. What a PV competition! This is very, very tight.

I anticipate the following for the top 3:

JT

Barras 63

Sintnicolaas 61

Krauchanka 61

1500

Barras 4:24

Sintnicolaas 4:27

Krauchanka 4:35

With these projections, the final scores work out to

Barras 8440

Sintnicolaas 8430

Krauchanka 8425

In other words: any of these three has a great shot at winning. Barring some huge PR in the JT, it will come down to the 1500.

102 points beetween 1rst and 5th !!

I don't kkow who will be the winner, but I know that this competition is amazing : what fight is

O.K., I've browsed thru the bios and give this for the final events:

JT

Barras 63.50

Krau 61.00

Sint 60.75

1500m

Barras 4:26

Sint 4:28

Krau 4:32

-->

Krau 8445

Barras 8435

Sint 8423

Adding Pahapill to projections:

63, 4:35, 8380. He would be right there after the JT.

When following JT and 1500, note that at these levels each meter is worth about 15 points in the JT, and each second about 7 points in the 1500.

For the top 4, performances in the JT and 1500:

Barras:

JT: Decathlon PR 65.84 from 2005; hit 64.68 last year. Most often in the range of 61 to 63.

1500: 4:20.9 decathlon PR, last year. Consistently in the 4:20s.

Sintnicolaas: 23 yrs old; only has 3 prior decathlons over 8000 pts, so not as much of a record to go on . . .

JT: Only thrown over 60m twice in decathlons, but did that in last two. Decathlon PR 61.51; 60.30 at Gotzis this year.

1500: Again, best two 1500s have been in his last two decathlons. 4:27.64 last year and 4:28.41 at Gotzis this year.

Krauchanka

JT: 64.35 decathlon PR, from 2007; has not thrown over 62 in a decathlon since before Beijing.

1500: 4:24.44 decathlon PR, from 2006; 4:27.47 in Beijing, not under 4:32 since then; 4:37 in two decathlons this year.

Pahapill:

JT: Hit 67.07 JT at Beijing; other than that, best JT in a >8000 pt decathlon is 63.60. Threw 62.60 in Gotzis this year.

1500: Decathlon PR 4:34.95, at Gotzis this year. Others have been over 4:40, but with a possible medal at stake, he should be able to replicate his Gotzis performance.

Barras 65.77 !
Posted: July 29, 2010
Sintnicolaas comes through with a decathlon PR 62.57 on his last throw to stay in the hunt. Others fall short of predictions; it looks like Barras and Sintnicolaas will battle it out for the gold and silver.

Barras is 5 points ahead - so Sintnicolaas needs to beat him by about .8 seconds in the 1500. On paper, Barras looks to be a few seconds faster, so is clearly the favorite. But Sintnicolaas has demolished several PRs, and will set an overall PR by 300 points. He may have it in him to beat Barras. Should be an interesting race.

Barras needs to run 4:21.4 to hit 8500.

A good competition in the end, many PBs (5 in the first 6) and a thriller between gold and silver

1 BARRAS, Romain FRA 8453 EL

2 SINTNICOLAAS, Eelco NED 8436 PB

3 KRAUCHANKA, Andrei BLR 8370 SB

4 PAHAPILL, Mikk EST 8298 PB

5 VAN ALPHEN, Hans BEL 8072 PB

6 DRAUDVILA, Darius LTU 8032 PB

Does anybody have more detailed info about the too-heavy-treatement of Kasyanov's masseur??? TV commentators said that this was the real reason for his pull-out

Those points were difficult to achieve for him though.

Congratulations to Romain Barras and his tittle. It was his last chance to win a major competition (30yo), and he takes it (Mayer World junior champ and Barras European champ : good news for France deca fans .).

A question : I have a dream or Lars Vikan Rise has improved his PB in the JT from 60.62m to 71.71m ?
Posted: July 30, 2010
