A fascinating analysis. As someone who competed under the 1962 tables, the 1984 tables were quite a shift (and yes, I acknowledge the skewing the advent of Fiberglas poles had in the 1962 tables). I don’t think a return to the days of Rafer Johnson so dominating in 3 events that he can wrest victory from Yang CK are good. But the 1984 tables changed the morphology of the decathlete…they reward the sprinter/jumper where the performances are spectacular (every one runs sub-11!) but the throws performances still are not much different from those of the 1970s…because they’re not as valuable. There will always be outliers - the likes of Kaul in javelin or Drouin in HJ, but you analysis as a way of finding more equity across the events is quite fascinating.

So interesting. Certainly can see the shift in emphasis from the 1962 to 1984 tables.
Great work pulling this together!
A gentleman!
