Estimado Rodolfo
Soy también cubano y me da mucho gusto conocerte por esta vía. Soy amante del Atletismo y sobre todo de las pruebas combinadas. En este sitio, Janek y Enn hacen un trabajo tremendo en pos de divulgar el Decatlón y lo hacen muy bien. Aquí hay infinidad de informaciones referentes a nuestro deporte y en específico del Deca.
Yo soy Estadístico e Historiador de Atletismo y en lo que necesites, puedes contar conmigo. Me puedes escribir también a mi email (mundeportes@gmail.com). Tengo mucha información de Decatlón, que puedo compartir contigo. También estoy preparando un ranking cubano de todos los tiempos (de todas las pruebas en general y del Decatlón en particular) lo más completo que me sea posible.
Es un gusto también saber que entrenaste a Leonel, quien está haciendo historia en el evento, dada su juventud y su calidad.
Particularmente pienso que puede convertirse en un par de años en el mejor del mundo ya que aún tiene varios eventos en los que debe mejorar y tiene reservas incalculables.
Pienso que si sigue su desarrollo como debe ser (tú sabes mejor que yo que el Deca es un evento de desarrollo lento) posiblemente esté haciendo para 2012 registros cercanos al actual récord del mundo. Tendrá entonces 25 años y para el 2016 en los Juegos de Río, con 29 años, estará en su madurez como decatleta y habrá que contar con él seriamente a la hora de repartir las medallas.
Otra ventaja que tienen los dos cubanos (sumemos a Yordanis) es que siempre se están enfrentando entre sí y eso los ayuda, incluso desde las competencias de base, a topar con otro atleta de la elite mundial. Creo que eso es un aliciente también para ambos y para mejorar.

I hadn't noticed that the article was written in 2011. So, in this case, Eaton and now Kevin Mayer or Damian Warner, could be great additions to the list.

Clay, thank you for your excellent and detailed work.
Taking account about the inclusion, in the list, of some men who do not compete in Decathlon, I consider that Ashton Eaton must be in any list of best of all times. One reason: he is the monster of Heptathlon (the multievent indoor version of Deca) in which he is the World Record holder and the most dominant men in history, adding to this, his two Deca WR, his two OG wins and the =OR, plus the two WC wins.
In my opinion, he deserves a space in the upper top of the list.
In the statistics side, he has the second-best Ideal Decathlon (Decathlon based on PBs), only behind Dan O'Brien.

Janek... the records previous to 1920 were calculated using the 1912 tables. The Nilsson, Ohlson and Klumberg's record used 1920 tables.
The Wickholm's record is inserted because his result with 1985 tables is better than Wieslander record in Stockholm.
