Just read from the press association news world champion 2009 (Berlin) at heptathlon, Jessica Ennis names athlete of Europe, January 2010.

Scored 6731 at Berlin, what do you think Ennis can do this season? Despite no global championships are being held this season outdoor, I think it is a perfect season to prepare for WCC 2011 in Daegu (South Korea), and with many "local" multi event competitions scheduled (including European Championships in Barcelona), I also think it is a good time to discuss about general progress for athletes for both this season and the next.

As with Jessica Ennis, considering she's quite young (Born 1986, link to IAAF profile page . http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/letter=e/... I believe we'll see a serius progress for her through all this season.

With a long way to go to 7032 (this is the score marking the best score in Europe, performed by Karolina Klüft in Osaka WCC, 2007), and even longer to world record 7291 (Jackie Joyner-Kersee, in Seoul 1988), great results so far (PB in 60m hurdles in January in Glasgow), I believe we'll see a good 50-100p addition to the current 6700 point mark this season outdoor.

What are your thoughts about who'll be at the top this season against the reigning world champion Jessica Ennis?

I think this is very intersting to talk about the womens multis. I agree about Ennis she had a great year last year and is in very good shape this year if she stays healthy I think she could score very well.

That being said I think that Hyleas Fountain could have given her a run for the championship last year. she was in very good shape and suffered an injury in the long jump in which she jumped 6.95.

I think it will be very fun to watch this year especially if both are healthy

I was really impressed by Ennis last year how easily everything went in the Berlin heptathlon. Especially her first day is outstanding and now she seems to improve even more in some events.

And she came back from a serious injury the year before, so now - if she stays healthy and fit and everything - she can improve her overall score by ~ 200 points. But for Klüft's score there is still a long way to go, she needs a really good competition for that. And the World record of course is out of reach anyway.

As for other heptathletes competing against her for the top spot I have to admit I don't really see anyone going for it. If you take a look at last year's top lists there is almost a 200 points difference to the second best score.

Though I have to admit I don't follow the women's heptathlon as closely, so maybe (like B.J. already suggested) there are athletes who were injured last season and so couldn't get a top score. I actually hope there will be some competition

DNF Hyleas Fountain 12.90 1.87m 13.81m 23.29 6.95m

these were her results through the first five events and she simply did not finish because of a weird neck injury in the long jump.

If she had thrown just 43 meters in javelin and ran 2:15 in the 800 she would have scored 6800. Both of those marks are below her persoanl bests.

i think the same thing as Ennis in the year before she was injured last year maybe she will come back with a big mark this year

she is in very good shape she has already scored 4731 with a slower 800 time of 2:23

she ran 8.04 in the hurdles 1.81 high jump, 13.83 shot put and 6.68 long jump

I think that it will be very fun to watch the scores this year between these two

Tatyana Chernova also scored a superb 4855 points in the pentathlon at the Russian Championships 2 weeks ago (60mH 8.38, HJ 1.86, Shot 13.38, LJ 6.72, 800m 2:12,70)

She has a PB in the heptathlon of 6618 points so far (Götzis 2008), but she only jumped 1.73 in the high jump there. So I think she could improve that score by about 200 points with the high jump alone. Though last year in Berlin she was only 8th with 6.288

I did notice that score she seems to be in good shape as well! I think the womens side will be very fun to watch if all can stay healthy!

A couple of words about Jessica Ennis before Doha.

really great score by Ennis in Doha (I have to admit I just noticed it now) - not that far away from the World Record (just about 50 points). I always find it fascinating that she jumps 1,90m or more in the high jump...

We cannot forget that Natalya Dobrynska also scored a career best and Ukrainian record pentathlon this indoor season as well (4851pts). ND is very talented, experienced and an Olympic Champion, so we cannot count her out. Plus she can throw the shot a mile. Karolina Tyminska of Poland has also scored high in the pentathlon (4769pts) and can run a smoking 800 (2:05) if a big score is on the line.

Gotzis will be a great competition this year as there are no major championships, and it would be awesome to see a 7000 score (maybe two???) put up at that great venue. Hope the weather is good!
