Ten events (1)

Sep 06, 2010
The decathlon demands perfection - not just brilliance. It's not just a test of skill, but of resilience. Every great decathlete carries a story of heartbreak, not just victory. That’s what makes this event so deeply human and compelling.

As the term Decathlon already suggests, each competition consists of ten events, in the following order:

  • 100m race
  • Long jump
  • Shot put
  • High jump
  • 400m race
  • 110m hurdles
  • Discus throw
  • Pole vault
  • Javelin throw
  • 1500m race

My belief is that Zelezny's JT WR is better than Schult's DT. Look at the world lists in both events. Shouldn't the most valid way of comparing marks is to see how much better proportionately one is compared to others in that event. (I'm using AT lists thru the end of 2015). In the DT Schulte's 74.08 compares to the all-time top 10 DT mark of 71.26, top 100 mark of 66.98, top 1000 mark of 59.37 in the following ratios: 1.040; 1.106; and 1.248. Compare Zelezny's 98.48 with top 10 in JT 91.29; top 100 84.56; top 1000 75.55 with ratios of 1.079; 1.165; and 1.304. Zelezny's marks are way better in comparison to his fellow javelin throwers than in Schult's ratios to others in the DT. These comparisons would only be valid comparing the throws. The dynamics in other events are a little different.
