Thank you for the explanation. However, I still cannot find either the exact NBL formula or the 1500 m time Mayer would have needed to reach 9024 points. Could you please provide the time directly?

May I ask one counterfactual question? Keeping Kevin Mayer’s other nine performances from Talence unchanged, what time would he have needed in the 1500 metres to exceed Ashton Eaton’s NBL total of 9024.0 points? Could you also provide the corresponding NBL score for the 1500 metres?

For comparison, under FDM-40N Mayer would have needed approximately 4:26.7 instead of his actual 4:36.11.

based on your experience from decathlons with friends, how would you define the practical meaning of 0 and 100 points on a decathlon scoring scale?

For example, should 0 points represent the weakest valid performance that an ordinary healthy adult beginner might produce, while 100 points should represent a result reasonably achievable without event-specific training? I would be very interested to know what approximate marks you would choose for the ten events.
