Multistars 1998 was part of the inaugural IAAF World Combined Events Challenge, adding extra significance to Oleksandr Yurkov’s victory in Desenzano del Garda. The Ukrainian was the only athlete to surpass 8000 points, winning with 8034 and beginning a run of back-to-back Multistars victories.
