Germany’s Leo Neugebauer claimed a dramatic victory in the decathlon at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, scoring 8804 points.
After a shaky hurdles race, he came alive on day two with a championship-record discus throw and a huge personal best in the javelin to seize the lead. The final challenge came in the 1500m, where Neugebauer delivered another personal best on the rain-soaked track to secure gold just ahead of Puerto Rico’s Ayden Owens.
The triumph marked his first world title and a career-defining performance, just a year after winning Olympic silver.
