In excellent conditions Kai Kazmirek secured the winner's trophy with 8462 points. It should be mentioned that Damian Warner scored no points in the shot put.

Jeremy Taiwo’s career-best came at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene when he scored 8425 points, finishing second only to Ashton Eaton and qualifying for Rio Olympics
