What a never ending sad story for Abele, something must go wrong there continiously (training, psyche, coaching...?)

Unfortunately all athletes who would have cough my interest do notb compete:

Germany:
Still a capable team but 8 out of the top 9 athletes aren't there.
Behernbruch, Schrader and Freimuth due to preparing for the WC.
Knobel, Abele, Hock injured
Kazmirek just won the European U23 title
and Norman Müller ?

USA:
Hardee (with Kazmirek in Germany), Eaton in Tallin (with Behrenbruch?) preparing for the WC. Taiwo and Nixon probably as well.
Beach, Lazkas and Morrison injured. ....

Great event but someone should evaluate, wheather the timing is propper?
Right now it isn't more than a consolatian gift.
Wouldn't it be a nice replacement for Ratingen/ USA trials earlier in the year with the goal to establish itself as the top event right after Olympic Games/World Championships and Götzis?

The Thorpe cup is a good competition cause it is good it happen at the right time, cause United State and Germany are the too greteast nation of the Decathlon (but it will be a good idea to widen to others european or americain country : i'm share that Estonia France or Russia will be interssted about it like Cuba or Brasil).
But it couldn't be the third decathlon of the year after the OG/Wolrd championship and Götzis cause :
- any decathlete who participate to the championship could do it.
- They are only 2 nations (like if they are the better one).
Figures speak to it : we can compare the Thorpe cup with the Mehrkampf of Ratingen :
Mehrkampf Ratingen's Record : 8701 points (Roman Sebrle, 2002)
Thorpe cup's record : 8569 points (Tom Pappas, 2009)
Decathlon over 8500 in ratingen : 4
decathlon over 8500 in Thorpe Cup : 1
And Ratingen part of IAAF Combined event challenge.

But there's also Talence, Kladno, and European Championship (Senior or U23).

So Thorpe Cup couldn't be the Third decathlon competition of the year.
