How many of you were in New Orleans when Dan O'Brien no heighted in the vault during the 1992 Olympic Trials? To me, it was one of the most shocking moments in track and field. I was sure he would have won in Barcelona. Can you think of other "shocking moments" in sport/decathlon?

That was Chris Huffins that fouled 3 javelin throws at a major competition. I believe it was a World Championships 1997. He was in the hunt for the medals too...

Jürgen Hingsen's four at the 1988 Olympic Games belong to the list. It was it last chance to win a big Champ...
One may remember that many of the big names were not health or even not in Seoul and 8488 were enough for taking Gold.

probably also dmitry karpov's two false starts this year. he was out of the competition before it even started, and he would have had a good chance of winning another medal

In Sevilla 1999, when Erki Nool failed in pole vault.
He scored 7508 points after 10 events (0 in pole vault).

Speculating he would had been made a result equal to 5m 40cm, his score would had been 8603 points, which would had been the 2nd place instead of Dean Macey.

How bout running 1sec too slow in order to break the 9000point barrier! That is the most shocking to me

Dan O´Brien is the most "bad luck" man. 1991: He won World Champ , but he jumped 1,91m only and scored 8812 instead of WR with 9000 points if he would jumped 2,12m (PB 2,20m).
