Rio 2016 - Ashton Eaton is the Olympic champion again (0)

Aug 19, 2016

Ashton Eaton is the greatest all-around athlete on the planet

Ashton Eaton won his second straight Olympic gold medal in the men's decathlon. Eaton's name will now be listed alongside U.S. Olympic legend Bob Mathias and Daley Thompson of Great Britain as the only men to have won multiple golds in the decathlon.

The 28-year-old world record holder equalled the Olympic record - set by Czech Roman Šebrle at Athens 2004 - by scoring 8993 points in Rio.

France's Kevin Mayer took silver with massive personal best and new NR 8834, while Canada's Damian Warner secured bronze with 8666 points. Mayer's silver was the first decathlon medal for France since 1948.

Eaton's wife, Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Canada, won bronze in the women's heptathlon. Not a bad haul of hardware for track and field's family.
