Here's an idea that I think I got from the late great Alphonse Juilland. (Note Dale Harder has done a lot of breakdowns by weight in his books, also). Breaking down athletes by weight class. I decided to use the US Powerlifting Federation's weight classes of 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 198, 220, 242, 275, 308 and superheavyweight. I think they do the best job of sorting them by fair amounts and not having too many. Boxing has way too many and wrestling and UFC both have these huge weight gaps for heavyweight (UFC is 206 to 265 for example). I thought this would be fun to list. I've been doing a lot of decathlon research lately so I will post what I found on decathletes. You are welcome to make/add any corrections. Obviously, some events won't be represented in some of the smaller (or, perhaps, larger classes) depending on the event. Here goes: 52kg/114.5lbs N/A 56kg/123.5lbs N/A 60kg/132.2lbs N/A 67.5kg/148.7lbs Wilfried Boulineau Fra (148 lbs) 8312 1999 75kg/165.2lbs Andrei Krauchanka Blr (159 lbs) 8617 2007 82.5kg/181.7lbs Bryan Clay US (174 lbs) 8832 2008 90kg/198.2lbs Roman Sebrle Cze (191 lbs) 9026 2001 100kg/220.2lbs Tomas Dvorak Cze (199 lbs) 8994 1999 110kg/242.5lbs Jurgen Hingsen Ger (225 lbs) 8832 1984 125kg/275.5lbs Pierre Faber SA (260 lbs) 7581 1996 140kg/308.5lbs Wladyslaw Komar POL (276 lbs) 6627 1963 140 kg/SHW N/A I think it would be cool to say Bryan Clay is the welterweight decathlon champion or whatever. Of course, Roman Sebrle remains the overall decathlon champion! |

Did more research and it appears both Faber and Komar were in the 230-235 lb range when they competed in the deca! Still can't find any deca results from Oldfield. Supposedly he did one in 1971 but no results yet! |
