Best performance compared to WR in a decathlon

At the Track and Field News board, there's a topic asking what decathlete came closest to the WR in an individual event. We're looking only post 1950, in >7000 pt decathlons, measuring the difference with present scoring tables. So far C.K. Yang's 1963 4.84 PV when the WR was 5.00 is the closest we have found - a 48 point difference. Join the discussion. Here's the link:

OK i read through the link. i've had this idea for some time, why not get rid of the scoring tables altogether and use a performance divided into the current world record to get a percentage. with calculaters a child could do it. EASY.
