I am posting the Deca list for the past 2 years to start the discussion on who will win in Daegu. Topic: DECATHLON RESEARCH
I am working on gathering testing results, training bests, etc on many of the top decathletes. I'm more interested in personal bests than in training regimes (although I did find that interesting as well). For example, events like standing long jump, vertical jump, triple leg bound, overhead shot toss, bench press, clean, snatch, squat, 30 meter sprints, 60 meter sprints, etc. …

Topic: WORLD DECA RECORDS BY WEIGHT CLASS
Here's an idea that I think I got from the late great Alphonse Juilland. (Note Dale Harder has done a lot of breakdowns by weight in his books, also). Breaking down athletes by weight class. I decided to use the US Powerlifting Federation's weight classes of 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 198, 220, 242, 275, 308 and superheavyweight. I think they do the best job of sorting them by …
Topic: quadrathlon tests
Anyone have any of these marks (standing long jump, 30 meter sprint, vertical jump or overhead throw) for any of the great decathletes? I'd be interested in other marks - bench press, squat, clean, etc. as well
Topic: All-time top 10 decathletes
I havent seen a list or an opinion on here. Anyone wanna list theirs??

I believe I have them. Email me and I will send them to you if interested. parkerclay@hotmail.com
Re: ADJUSTED ALL-TIME DECATHLON LIST
Wasn't Mannheim 1984 his best deca? I adjusted his best here.
Re: ADJUSTED ALL-TIME DECATHLON LIST
I do think that O'Brien would have run a faster 1500 in Talence had he needed to exceed Daley's score
Re: Clay’s Weak 1500 Causes Serious Concerns to the Sport
John, great column! Do you have contact info? Clay
Re: Interesting books
I have bought every edition ever printed. It is an excellent book - I recommend it all serious sports fans.
Re: Redefining the decathlon scoring method
Thanks - I'm gonna start a new post about spearmon, etc.
Re: Redefining the decathlon scoring method
cool - Do you have Spearmon's marks?
Re: Redefining the decathlon scoring method
Phil, Is the 8171 score for Jenner's 76 performance? I was thinking the score for career bests was someone different. Can you list the top ones out? Btw, have you updated Sebrle's career bests - I think he's improved a couple of performances since '01
Re: WORLD DECA RECORDS BY WEIGHT CLASS
Did more research and it appears both Faber and Komar were in the 230-235 lb range when they competed in the deca! Still can't find any deca results from Oldfield. Supposedly he did one in 1971 but no results yet!

Re: All-time top 10 decathletes
I thought it might be easier to start to break them down into 3 categories: Pre WWII (Thorpe, Hoff, Sheridan, Kiely, etc) WWII - 1979 (Mathias, Rafer, Campbell, Avilov, Kuznetsov, Jenner, Toomey, etc) 1980- Present (Thompson, Hingsen, O'Brien, Sebrle, Clay, Dvorak, etc)
Re: quadrathlon tests
http://web.me.com/boylinator/DecaTom.Com/Stats.html This site says Pappas has the world record in the quadrathlon at 369. Does anyone have any better marks?
Re: quadrathlon tests
I failed to mention that was Jake Arnold above. Anyone else have some marks to share? Good post, BJ!
Re: quadrathlon tests
Well only a week after the USA Championships I decided to take part in the University of Arizona NFL Pro Day. I took part in the 40meter dash (4. 54secs), vertical jump (36inches), broad jump (10’ 9), 3 cone drill (7. 22secs), 20 meter shuffle (4. 50secs), and ran routes as a wide receiver. The cone drills and shuffle gave me a little trouble. Overall I felt I did really good and …
