Topic: Hans Joachim Walde died at age 70
Former german decathlete Hans Joachim Walde died last weekend at age 70. He has won two Olympic decathlon medals: bronce in Tokyio 1964 and silver in Mexico 1968. After having finished his decathlon career he had been working as a chief physician (surgery) in Sande (Ger) until 2007. Best wishes to friends and family. Link: http: //www. dosb. [...] [...]

Topic: Thorpe Cup 2012
Eaton and Hardee are already in Germany preparing for the Thorpe Cup next week in Marburg. They however won't compete in more than a few selected events. They started this weekend in Mörfelden. Hardee ran the hurdles in 14. 01 s. Eaton threw the discus 46. 53 m. Eaton competed in the pole vault as well but obviously did no manage to clear his entering heigh of 4. 94 m three times …
Topic: Decathletes: PB Correction and Improvement Thread
Some fans assiduously are collecting new or corrected datas. It however seems that some of these results get lost. I suspect that it might take too much expenditure of time to search for these data on many different places on this side in order to add them to the sheet. Maybe these updates could find a home somewhere on this side? I've recently posted: Pascal Behrenbruch: pole …
Topic: IAAF accepting NWI results?
Can someone help me out? I've just taken a look at the IAAF All Time decathlon list. Some NWI (= no wind measurement to my understanding) caught my attention. Since I'm german it's a shame that there are especially some top results completed in germany that have some NWI within their single results (all results are from the 80ies). Among them are: Jürgen Hingsen 8825 (a former WR) Uwe …
Re: IAAF Combined EventsChallenge, who'll win?
Well does not has to start in another decathlon, since he should have reached all personal goals with his great performance in moscow. On the other hand: just 8249 pts in front of his french home crowd could bring him up to 30.000$. Yes decathletes don't do it for the money, but I guess 30k$ wouldn't hurt either.
Re: Wishlist for athletes files
Gunnar Nixon and Kai Kazmirek do have established themselves in the world class this year. I expect them to get even better and would welcome to see them having their own file. By the way, you really great have established great improvements: 1) wind measuring data in the coloured file 2) those files that were updated are up front. Thanks a lot, this makes decathlon2000 even better.
Re: 13 decathlons
Glenn Morris set a world record mark in the 2nd decathlon of his career at the US trials 1936 (which for whatever reason has never been officiallyratified?). A few months later he won the gold medal at the olympics in Berlin 1936 with an official world record. It had just been the 3rd (and last) decathlon of his career.

Re: Ratingen 2013
Great performances in Ratingen. Even though the german qualifying system had been created unclear and complicated the officials had luck with the outcome: with Behrenbruch, Freimuth and Schrader the best athletes are qualified. Not very clever from Kazmarek and Knopel to pass on additional jumps in the long jump. Another attempt like the one of Behrenbruch (6, 94 ‐0, 5) and both …

Knobel should have informed himself about the actual wind rules. Afer a pb in attempt one 7, 36m +1, 0 he passed on attempts 2 and 3 . . . Re: Gotzis 2013: Eaton Out
Götzis is still Götzis and will remain the top decathlon event, but due to injuries and weather 2013 will become the worst competition for years. And as if injuries and weather aren't enough it happens exactly, what I feared in the Schrader thread yesterday: germans due to their …

As DecFan already posted in another thread Uibo, Maicel 8223 pts (new PB) link: http: //grfx. cstv. [...] [...] [...] pdf 8200 btw is above the IAAF A Standard. This number could become important. If fewer than 3 athletes will finish above the 8200 mark at the trials (Hardee is already qualified) there might be a chance to make the US team for moscow taking this result into account.

Re: Olympic Games London 2012
I don't have a clue who is involved and who isn't, but there is still Busemann. Frank Busemann unfortunately did not live up to his (world record) talent due to injuries. Hid however created an offensive anti doping way: without having to do so he gave blood in a regular rhythm (not sure here but I remember that even a lawer had been involved in the process). Busemann thereafter let it …
Re: Olympic Games London 2012
Legna, I wouldn't be surprised if later on we'll find out that some athletes of our era were doping offenders? But saying that they do it all??? Why in example does a guy like Bryan Clay lean himself so far out of the window that he more or less hates doping and never would do it himself ... . I mean he did not say that under pressure to say anything about?
Re: Olympic Games London 2012
Legna, in terms of doping I distrust some athletes as well, but until we know something for sure, my approach is still the presumption of innocence. I'd however suggest that on this side the results of those who were caught: William Motti, Stefan Schmid, Larbi Bouraada should get deleted out of their profiles (at least the doping PB results they put up) I did not know about his …
Re: Olympic Games London 2012

Re: Thorpe Cup 2012
Since just 2 athletes mastered the A Qualification standard (8200) at the olympic trials, the USA were not allowed to send the 3rd place athlete of the trials to London. Bryan Clay could have tried to master these 8200 pts right after the trials in another decathlon in hope that the US commintee then would have made an exception for him ‐ he however did not even try. . . . Re: Thorpe Cup 2012
It seems as if Clay could not motivate himself after having missed the olympic games. He had some nice individual results earlier this year but age is taking his toll and he at age 32 obviously can not put together a acceptable complete decathlon anymore: ( Reminds me on some soccer players who at 32 to 36 still can dominate games ‐ but just for short stretches and not over the course …

Re: European Championships 2012 Helsinki
I just went through Behrenbruchs results since he became an 8000 athlete in 2006 and picked the 7th best result in every event. Just in case he keeps a clear head, this is what I'd expect from him: 49,32 ______ 14,24 48,06 4,70 66,50 4:39,45 = 8367 pts
Re: European Championships 2012 Helsinki
Wow, what a performance by Behrenbruch so far, way ahead of his Götzis result and Kasyanov, his most serious opponent is struggling . . . I can not see any other athlete on track to surpass 8250 pts. After just 4 events Behrenbruch already looks like the winner. He however has a history of faltering under pressure and the pressure this time comes early, this will be a tough night for …

Re: US Olympic Trials 2012
Is Eaton on his way to a new WR? I do have my doubts that he'll do it yet 1) Weather does not seem to be perfect and that usually costs you a lot of power during the (longer) 2nd day. 2) The trials are just too important; if it is close before the javelin, will he go at his limit inhering the danger to overpower and maybe missing the olympic games? If nothing unexpected happens Dan …
Re: Russian Combined Events Campionships 2012
My understanding is that every country is allowed to send up to one athlete who just has accomplished B standard. So if a country does not has any athletes above 8200, it can at least send one athlete who has made 7950. (if it has in example 3 athletes that have made exactly 8000 the country still is allowed to send just one of them) So if two athletes are above 8200, a country is allowed …

The international A Norm stands at 8200 and the B Norm stands at 8050 To my understanding: Sviridov has won and has already the A Norm with 8365 = A qualified Drozdov has made 8334 in 2011 = A qualified (any activities this year ?) Re: Ashton Eaton
Very interesting to see a decathlete participiating in a 400m race out of selected events The 45.68 s however do not come to surprise. Who runs 100m in 10,26 (10,19 wind aided) and the 1000m inddoor in 2:32,67 min, in theory should be able to finish even faster (close to 45.00 s). Re: Where Ashton Came Up Short of Expectations
Barkasz Roland, yes he has set a WR outside the USA in Tallin. But c'm on hepathlon more or less is just a more serious sort of practice - who really cares about hepathlon? Wake me up once he has completed a top (8650+) decathlon outside of america.
Re: European Championships 2012 Helsinki
Thank you, European Athletics Congress for cancelling racewalk. It was a such a shame that they broadcasted racewalk instead of the parallel happening decathlon in Deagu on a few occasions.
Re: Where Ashton Came Up Short of Expectations
Outside of the USA (especially Eugene) Eaton seems to be out of his comfort zone. In order to prepare for the olympics, he better should he better should exercise such situations: away from home, other time zone, other weather conditions (the more it rains the better it is in regard to London). On the bad side javelin still is a difference maker (in a negative way). He at least has shown …

Re: Ashton Eaton PR's and possible WR
Even as a german I became a big Daley Thompson fan. But there are no arguments to say that he could have been better in the 1500 m if he wanted. 1st) He ran the 4: 20, 3 early in his career, at a time when he wasn't ahead of the others after 9 events, so if he could have been better, it would have make sense to run faster by that time. 2nd) He later in his career (when he really …
Re: Ashton Eaton PR's and possible WR
B J Parish; your argument regarding the collegiate system is a good one. I'm from germany and used to our system where for an athlete it is more or less natural to perform in multi events in his early years with specializing in an individual event later on. Taking these differences into account, I do understand that it takes an US athlete by times a little longer to become a complete …
Re: Ashton Eaton PR's and possible WR
He still has some reserves in various events. Running: The hurdles are already his best event, but who runs the 100m in 10, 26 and the 1000m (indoor) in 2: 32, 67 min should definitely be able to run the 400m below 46s and the 1500m below 4: 15min. Jumping: As far as I remember, he stated to expect 8, 20m in the long jump. Considering his speed (10, 26s 100m) and jumping ability (2, …

Re: IAAF accepting NWI results?

Re: ADJUSTED ALL-TIME DECATHLON LIST
If you've thrown 50 m with the old javellin, the new one costs you less than 1,5 m. If you've thrown 70 m it might cost you about 3 m. But former 90 m athlets barely reached 85 m with the new modell (5 m less) I'm sorry, but no simple formula applies for this problem, since the difference between old and new is not proportional.
