A decathlon score tells a story, but comparing performances from different eras is rarely straightforward. Scoring tables, equipment, competition conditions and the sport itself have changed over time.
Recalculating older results using the 1985 scoring tables gives us a useful starting point. But how much context should we add when judging a historical performance?
Which matters most to you: the recalculated score, the athlete’s advantage over their rivals, or how exceptional the individual marks were at the time?
Share a performance you think deserves a closer look. Results, sources and personal memories are all welcome.
