Niklas Kaul became the youngest decathlon world champion in history when he won gold in Doha 2019 with a personal best of 8691 points. He had previously set a world U20 record of 8435 points with U20 implements while winning the European U20 title in Grosseto 2017. His European senior title in München 2022 added another major triumph to a career recognised with Germany’s Sportsman of the Year award in both 2019 and 2022.
