If one were to list the key physical attributes for decathlon success, what would you include? One list I have seen is: Strength, speed, spring, endurance, and technique. Another is: Strength, speed, flexibility, agility, coordination, endurance, and technique. One might look at it from a core competency view point (sprint, jump, throw, endurance) to determine attributes. My list: Strength, speed, power, endurance, and technique. The key here is differntiating strength and power. With your list of attributes, what importance (by percentage) would you apply to each event. Clearly, this a crude analysis. For instance, it does factor in the mental attributes one would desire (focus, motivation, work ethic, ability to "psyche up", ability to shrug off and move on). Thoughts? |
