Eaton and Hardee are already in Germany preparing for the Thorpe Cup next week in Marburg.
They however won't compete in more than a few selected events.
They started this weekend in Mörfelden.
Hardee ran the hurdles in 14.01 s.
Eaton threw the discus 46.53 m.
Eaton competed in the pole vault as well but obviously did no manage to clear his entering heigh of 4.94 m three times

I btw had some fun when I just looked again on my post from April in the Ashton Eaton thread, where I calculated which way he could manage 9036 pts.
Well he came out with 9039 and had different strenghts but

It seems as if Clay could not motivate himself after having missed the olympic games.
He had some nice individual results earlier this year but age is taking his toll and he at age 32 obviously can not put together a acceptable complete decathlon anymore
Reminds me on some soccer players who at 32 to 36 still can dominate games - but just for short stretches and not over the course of a full season anymore ...

Since just 2 athletes mastered the "A Qualification standard (8200)" at the olympic trials, the USA were not allowed to send the 3rd place athlete of the trials to London.
Bryan Clay could have tried to master these 8200 pts right after the trials in another decathlon in hope that the US commintee then would have made an exception for him - he however did not even try... .

Not sure there, but to my understanding USA are not even allowed to send Clay. I believe that a country can just send an athlete who faild to qualify if no other athletes from the country is qualified in that specific event - but Eaton and Hardee are already qualified.

I know there is Sebrle (and formerly Dvorak). But think about all these athletes around 30, who still can make an individual record here and there but overall can't get it done anymore: Barras, Niklaus, Pahapill (age 29)
