Today in Santa Barbara, CA; Ashton Eaton set a PB in the 400 with a 45.68. He also did a 10.45 in the 100 and 14.62 in the shot. Believe he will complete in selected Day 2 events tomorrow.

Very interesting to see a decathlete participiating in a 400m race out of "selected events"
The 45.68 s however do not come to surprise.
Who runs 100m in 10,26 (10,19 wind aided) and the 1000m inddoor in 2:32,67 min, in theory should be able to finish even faster (close to 45.00 s).
And that means taking in mind that he ain't a specialist - just like Bill Toomey (10,41 / 45,68 / 4:12,7)

Olympic Games are an exhausing "marathon" competitions and not ideal for world records (even though it is the point in time, when the athletes should be in top form). I'm however curious how Eaton will do at the US trials.
Just out of couriosity I calculated the points he'd get for his 2nd best result in everey single event:
10,33 - 8.06 - 14,62 - 2,10 - 46,28 -
13,52 - 46,14 -5,20 - 56,19 - 4:20,56 = 9036

Eaton and Hardee are already in Germany preparing for the Thorpe Cup next week in Marburg.
They however won't compete in more than a few selected events.
They started this weekend in Mörfelden.
Hardee ran the hurdles in 14.01 s.
Eaton threw the discus 46.53 m.
Eaton competed in the pole vault as well but obviously did no manage to clear his entering heigh of 4.94 m three times

I btw had some fun when I just looked again on my post from April in this thread, where I calculated which way he could manage 9036 pts.
Well he came out with 9039 and had different strenghts but
