Very interesting list!
I think the new javelin had big influence on the points for this event, but no one started new list (as for the single event JT). Now this listing does accomodate this situation and we can at least estimate the scores of the heroes of the 80s

I do think that O'Brien would have run a faster 1500 in Talence had he needed to exceed Daley's score

ONE CORRECTION:

5 (NO 4) Jürgen Hingsen FRG 8832 + 54 (NO 69) ADJ PTS = 8886 (NO 8901)

= 5 Jürgen Hingsen FRG 8825 + 61 ADJ PTS = 8886 10,92 - 7.74 - 15.94 - 2.15 - 47,89 - 14,10 - 46.80 - 4.70 - 67.26/71.30 ADJ - 4.19,74 Bernhausen 1983 Mannheim BEFORE 1984

parkerclay adjusted he alltime-list according to conversions from old to new javelin, if I understand it correctly. The list is ordered by the adjusted scores.
Dan O'Brian already used the new javelin, so there is nothing to convert.
Daley's adjusted best score is 8906, Dan's is 8891.

Why do you add about 4 meters to old javelin ??!
IP: 109.239....

The avarage of top ten old javelin throwers is about 96,5m and for new javelin it is 92,5m , so 4 meters should be reduced , not added to old javelin - can somebody explain ?

The above list dbirds corrected, parkerclay ¿? In this forum:

http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/discussion/viewto...

But first, added a 6% to the distance from the previous release to 1985 and then mistakenly dbirds correct the punctuation of the rest you added earlier and the score of the distance equivalent to 6% reduction in the release.

The correct subtracting the 6% of the distances before 1985 would be:

Support for conversion:

The idea of putting together the results achieved with the Old Javelin (until 31/12/85) with those achieved with the New Javelin (beginning 01/01/1986) belongs to Dr. Karl Graf,
an Austrian statistician and member of the ATFS.
After consulting with a number of trainers as well as with several statistician colleagues of his, Dr. Graf came up with the following formula: OJ0.85 x 1.78 = NJ.
For example, take Uwe HOHN's record of 104.80 m with the old javelin. On your calculator, you can calculate his probable distance with the new javelin:
(104.8 x^y 0.85) x 1.78 = 92.83.
Though it is not possible to establish a definitive hierarchy of competitors using the old javelin along with those using the new one, I believe this system allows for good
comparisons of all existing results achieved with the javelin.

I think it is not good formula, we have a lot of years to compare
and there is about 4 meters difference only :
MEN top 10: 94m old and 90 new
top 50: 90m old and 86 new
WOMEN top 10: 71m old and 67 new
top 50: 67m old and 63 new
so it seems German Hohn and Felke should be still better than Czech Zelezny and Spotakova !!

If you've thrown 50 m with the old javellin, the new one costs you less than 1,5 m.
If you've thrown 70 m it might cost you about 3 m.
But former 90 m athlets barely reached 85 m with the new modell (5 m less)

I'm sorry, but no simple formula applies for this problem, since the difference between old and new is not proportional.
